An Update from Bellingham Public Schools Foundation :
Educator Grants
This year, thanks to donors who gave in support of these grants, they were able to say yes to over 20 teachers and grants were awarded to sports and health initiatives, field trips, technology, art, family engagement and more!
Kulshan Middle School librarian received $1,000 to supplement their library with the kids most requested reading material: manga. Manga helps students develop emotional intelligence, and exercise their right and left brains. In addition, the committee decided to award similar funding to Fairhaven, Shuksan and Whatcom Middle Schools, and Options High School so all can benefit from expanded collections.
Wade King Elementary along with other District music specialists, requested $5,000, which was 1/3 the cost to buy full set of Tubano drums for all 14 elementary schools. The Foundation agreed to fund the grant at $7,000 and shared the proposal with their community partner, the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra who made a generous gift of $5,000!
YES Card Program
The YES card program started in October 2018, and in the last 3 years, they have given over 900 YES cards to Bellingham kids.
The Foundation's YES card program has seen greater requests than ever this school year. In November alone they had over 50 applications for YES Cards for struggling students.
